WiDS Malta forms part of Data Science Malta's collaboration and event history as an independent regional event aligned with the wider Women in Data Science initiative.
The Women in Data Science initiative began as a conference at Stanford in November 2015 and grew into a wider programme with regional events, a datathon and a podcast. Its purpose is to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, while supporting visibility for women in the field.
The historical Data Science Malta material describes WiDS Malta as an independent event organised by Data Science Malta to coincide with the annual global Women in Data Science conference, and states that attendees of all genders were welcome.
The page can document the people, programme and organisations around each edition rather than reducing the initiative to a single paragraph.

Students, practitioners, educators, organisations and people exploring data careers can meet around a shared technical programme.
If a new edition is formally organised, registration, speakers, agenda, venue and partner information can be published here without losing the historical archive.
Organisations, speakers, educators and community partners can contact Data Science Malta to discuss future events, talks, workshops or collaboration opportunities. A new WiDS Malta edition is not assumed until formally announced.
